Facing the Hard Truths with Avery Lynch's New Single Dead To Me

It's one thing to drift from someone you were once close to, whether romantically or within family, but accepting that you've both changed and can't go back to who you were is a much harder truth to face. Avery Lynch beautifully captures the transition from letting go to accepting in her newest single, “Dead to Me.”

Lynch is no stranger to an incredible, soul-crushing piano ballad. Known as the “happy girl filled with sad songs,” she combines her soft, raw vocals with lyrics that deliver a gut-punching perspective on relationships, heartbreak, and emotional freedom. Following in the footsteps of her emotionally charged singles “Rain” and “the boys who don’t know what they want,” “Dead to Me” is a deeply heartfelt and introspective reflection on navigating the hollow space left behind after losing someone significant.

Lynch shared her embrace of this emotional shift saying, “[It’s about] coming to terms with how the version of them that I knew no longer exists. There’s comfort in knowing we’ve both changed, but it’s also so strange and surreal to reflect on.”

Her mature outlook on loss echoes through her lyrics as she gracefully acknowledges the pain associated with letting go. As the piece progresses, so does the intensity of the music, propelling the listener forward in a powerful, authentic moment. It feels as if we are listening to the memories dissolve from her mind in real time; the person she once loved and well as herself slowly becoming foreign to her. Lynch’s ability to paint emotional, complex, and relatable stories with her words showcases her songwriting talent.

“Dead to Me” is more than another wonderful extension of Avery Lynch’s discography and an honest, emotional experience you won’t want to miss.
