Toronto-based star Maddie Regent, known for her hit song “EGO” and self-titled EP Maddie Regent, has been releasing music since 2019. Regent often writes about navigating anxiety as a teen, aiming to connect with other teens who feel misunderstood.

Her latest single, “Miss Virgo,” is part of her highly anticipated debut album, On the phone with my mom, which will be released on May 16th. With its light vocal echoes, minimalist melodies, and soft ambient textures, the song feels like you’re slowly healing.

Beyond its detailed production, the song holds deep personal significance for both Maddie Regent and her audience. She shares that it is dedicated to “those who aren't with us anymore, and those who I don't talk to but watch from afar.” The song reflects on a dark time in her life when she battled an eating disorder and was placed in a treatment center. It was there she met a group of girls her age, whom she credits with changing her experience for the better. “Miss Virgo” serves as an ode to them.

When I listen to the song, I’m immediately drawn to its gentle melody, which creates a calming tone. It brings a sense of peace, allowing me to quiet my mind and focus on the beautifully written lyrics.

While Maddie has previously drawn from her personal life in past EPs and singles, “Miss Virgo” is her most vulnerable song yet. Its raw, honest lyrics and emotional depth mark a new level of artistic maturity for the singer-songwriter.

To hear more of her powerful storytelling, Maddie Regent’s debut album, On the phone with my mom, will be available on May 16th and is available to pre-save on Spotify now.
